A DOULA’S PRAYER
o tender and loving god
hold us gently as we pray
we – the healers, the life bearers, the doulas –
the ones who hold up creation
as it breaks through in the very act of birth
for we are the ones who stand in the liminal spaces
the ones holding divine transformation as it comes
through what humanity only knows as death
hold us gently as we pray
remind us – the healers, the life bearers, the doulas –
that we are but empty vessels
containers who hold with the most tender care
all of the beauty and chaos and truth that is life
willingly holding the miracles of your divine work
and gently cradling the transformations
that ushers life into eternity
grant us courage as we empty ourselves
we – the healers, the life bearers, the doulas –
to become those vessels that hold
all the sorrow, joy, pain, and hope
for all that life brings to this world,
and as we hold your miraculous work in our very hands
we ask that you hold us gently on this day
